I am glad you are an optimist, benstabler. I am not. The only way to fund giving away this much money is to raise taxes. So much of the money is for medicaid and food stamp increases. Not quite sure how that and funding free daycare for the poor helps anyone from the middle class.

well I think the bigger issue here is that some of those people used to be middle class. So many people have lost their jobs due to the economy. If you or I lost our jobs tomorrow we would be hell bent to find a new one quickly paying enough to make ends meet and we would be one of those people. 10 or 15 years ago we could have walked out one door and in another and probably be hired.

True but many of the people who will benefit from this stimulus never worked anyways and that is what bothers me. I will just have to wait and see who is right on this. It will take at least 6 months to see if this will work anyways.

oh hey I hear ya my friend! I feel the same way with the mortgage help, some of those people never could and never will be able to afford their mortgages. My friends daughter worked with her (the place I go for work) making making around $10 an hour and her husband is seld employeed in landscaping not bringing in too much and they got a $90,000 house loan with an ARM. With any amount of help they will never be able to afford that unless finances change!

My point exactly and the whole thing that bothers me about this whole hand out is the way Obama is viewed as the messiah. He can do no wrong. He is speaking tonight at 9pm and I'll be it screws up SVU.

Speaking of Obama and the stimulus package, Keith Olbermann is going to deliver a special commentary on it, it looks like. As I remember him saying, he won't hesitate to hold him (Obama) accountable for stuff that could happen on his watch.

I will have to watch it. I usually watch Keith every night right after I watch Hannity(now there is diversity in action). I am glad Keith feels that way. As everyone now can guess I am no big Obama fan. I think many will be sadly heart broken when he can't deliver in what they think is the right amount of time. He needs to be hopeful and realistic tonight and not blame Bush. That just wastes time in rehashing what we can't change. . Time for that is over. Obama got his stimulus bill passed and now this economy is his.
I am tired of hearing that this is the worst economy since the Great Depression. Can anyone say Jimmy Carter and home loans with 19% interest.
The USA has spent at least 14 years messing up the housing industry and no one can fix it in 3 weeks. LOL.

LOL. Definitely not going to be fixed in 3 weeks.
I didn't watch it but Brian did and I was saying something about the story above and he said Obama said this wasn't going to help out folks who could not afford their houses to begin with, and it should not. Those who are affected due to paycuts and jobloss are a different story.
I agree some are holding him on a pedestal but I think there are just as many on the other side of the fence and regardless he will be held up as that Messiah no matter what happens or to some he will never do enough.

I fell asleep and didn't watch it either and I am glad that no one who got a home they couldn't afford are not being promised help by Obama and I hope that Obama has a provision to help only those that need help, added to that section of the bill. It is not in there now according to many in the financial world who have read the provision. What a nightmare we are living through.

I hope it doesn't either. Some people were drastically affected due to the crappy economy those are the ones who need help. Many people do not live beyond their means but one job loss and their life is in the crapper.

And many people don't plan for a rainy day long before it rains. I took a huge paycut when I was downsized from my last job in 2005. I know you did last year. BUT we planned for that rainy day. I am accused of being cheap time after time but I live within my means and I only get what I can afford and still save money. Hence the no digital cable and dial up internet. So many people didn't do this.

Yeah. I mean I am not broke over my paycut but just a little less luxeries and cut some things out. Of course if we lost our jobs, we'd be up shits creek without a paddle! lol

All we can do it wait and see. My biggest issue these days is health care and I hope to see something about that very soon!

How many of you happened to watch President Obama's speech to the military yesterday? He told them that they and their families have served their country and it's time for everyone to help them adjust to civilian life. However, the plan to leave 50,000 troops in Iraq and have them train Iraqis, to my mom, is like the Vietnam War all over. It sounds more like plans to escalate the war in Iraq, not end it.
