You raise a valid point, pumping in money from a stimulous package does nothing to increase spending. Never did FDR tried it in the depression and until WW11 got us needing war supplies, we recovered little. Gigin people tax breaks so they cn spend their own money on goods and services is the clue.

Never did FDR tried it in the depression and until WW11 got us needing war supplies, we recovered little. Gigin people tax breaks so they cn spend their own money on goods and services is the clue. I scanned a quick article earlier and appeared that was the plan? People are freaking out now about all this, we WILL recover..eventually. They recovered from the depression then and I think some people became wiser about spending because of it. It's just something "new" to us youngins but we wil survive. I am interested in seeing what comes out of Obama on health care costs because this is a BIG issue with me!

The plan has lots of spending for stuff like STD prevention, food stamps etc..How that stimulates the economy is beyond me. LOL. We will recover. I lived thru the Carter years and this economy is the worst since then not the Great Depression.
I don't know what can be done about Health Care Costs. I am not certain Universal Healthcare will help everyone. As an almost 62 year old woman who smokes, I most likely would be far down on the scale to get services. Most Universal Health care comes with a rationing and/or quota system and extremely higher taxes to give us something free. Would that be trading one high cost for another?
I should check with Maureen to see how it works in Canada. Something does need to be done.

I am not for universal health care myself even though I pay some outrageous premiums and co-pays. Maureen does still buy insurance through her work even with the health care in Canada. From what I heard even though you GET your "free" healthcare getting into a doc can be a pain in the ass. I would like to see something more standardized in costs. If I work just as hard as you and our healthcare is the same, why should I pay more than you...since we are both working citizens. I don't think anyone should ever be denied health care of get hit with outrageous bills for health care. But I also don't think those who are too lazy to work should benefit from it.

I was watching Hardball with Chris Matthews and I saw a clip of Obama saying that CEOs getting a bonus was shameful and he was quite tough on them.

I think anyone gouging anyone in this economy is wrong. Many companies have bonus programs for productivity and I have no problem with that. People should be rewarded for a job well done. Being rewarded for driving a company into the ground is just wrong.
As for healthcare I wait to see what Obama will do. Most opinion polls indicate that most want something done but not necessarily universal health care. The price tag on that is much higher taxes to pay for it.

I don't think many Americans want that. I have never really whined about taxes, though I should, I just want to GET something for my money. There is no reason we can't keep current taxes and settle on a capped amount folks pay in premiums and co-pays. My coworker paid $100 for 9 migraine pills earlier this week. yes I said NINE!

Most migraine medications are through the roof. Imitrex and Maxalt are super expensive. RX insurance covers some pills but not others.
People with no insurance and certain income levels can call the drug company if they can't afford their RX and many times the drug company will provide them with the medication. Most people don't realise that.

Especially medicines for pre-existing conditions such as hypo or hyperthyroidism.

Luckily those medications such as Synthroid are relatively cheap. Health care does need to be addressed but I am not sure what the answer is. Tom Daschle former Senate Majority leader is to head up healthcare research issues. Now he faces problems because he didn't pay thousands of dollars in taxes. First the secretary of the Treasury and now him. Whats with it with these people? If I tried this the IRS would hang my @$$ out to dry.
