I am fortunate that I have a recession proof job in these times.

Not so many people do, though. The guy who was my schoolmate at A.C.S. is looking for a job here in Jordan, whatever job he can get, whether in computers or as a science/math teacher. People here who went to the States to study and then work there are coming back because they lost their jobs over there.

In so many job sectors people are just losing their jobs right and left.
Ohio's unemployement rate is the highest since 1989 and higher than the national average. Some of this is Ohio's own fault. The cost to do business here is the second highest in the nation. Business are packing up and either going south or west.

Did anyone notice the look on John Boehner's face? What is his problem?

He is from Ohio and hates to spend any money on this stimulus package. I think that explains the look on his face.

Aah, I see. Maybe he doesn't believe that the stimulus package will benefit everybody. I kind of feel bad for President Obama because he really seemed to want Republicans, as well as Democrats, to work with him, although I'm not too fond of either party.

I am no in agreeance the stimulus package will help. Not that I am not opposed to money...lol but last time people either paid back bills or saved it and I don't think it did anything to stimulate the economy.

I watched both the inaugural concert and the inauguration last week, and I thought, Ice-T and Belz should have been asked to speak and perform at the former. I'm glad Bono and U2 were there to perform after Sam Jackson said that Martin Luther King Jr. inspired them, though.

I would have loved to see Ice-T or Belz perform there. I know they were both ardent supporters.
Now as for the stimulus package. I have been against all the bailouts and this one too. I know Obama thinks he is helping but not even his party is all onboard with this.
Here is how you stimulate an economy. 1. Lower capital gains taxes. If ya sell it ya can keep most of the money. 2. Cut corporate tax rates in half. Companies can use that money to hire more people, and pay those they have more. 3. Cut the lowest 3 tax brackets by 5-10%..
If this were tried for 6 months, I guarantee it would work. It has in the past.

I am not sure the corporate taxes thing would help because I think out CEO's just got a little TOO greedy lately. We've hired a TON the last couple years at my job but we took paycuts. To me that just says "pay the workers less so I can have more" which I think is a BIG part of our problem in the first place!

I think maybe that's what John Boehner was not too happy about - the greed.

CEO's are out of control of this there is no doubt, benstabler I think you are on to something there, Almeda about John. The cost of doing business in Ohio is over the top and Ohio is broke. He doesn't want to spend anymore money and gets grumpy. LOL

I don't think our problems will be fixed until we bring some jobs back to the US. I think the "solution" is simple....you don't pay us money we can't buy your product.
I had to call microsoft regarding my media player today and the same day I heard they would be laying off a large number of people....I am pretty sure the gentleman I spoke to was not here in the US and his last name wasn't Smith! lol (no offense to our overseas pals...)
And hey I don't know what the whole solution is to pump money back into the economy but handing out the money to the banks and car companies when people STILL don't have the money to afford their services and from what I have heard they are getting more stingy on the credit lending which means even less can afford it, that isn't going to fix it. Same with the stimulus package, most people I know would not be able to stimulate the economy with that. I know I'm certainly not buying a new house or new car or remodeling my house and buying a new big screen TV with any money I would get.
