Yep, I disappeared for a while there for a very good reason; the flu! Just the standard flu; no nausea or anything that disturbing...just everything clogged up and one nasty dry cough. It has me out and missing in action for a good week and a half there and still fighting it. I have class tomorrow and I can't miss it again due to a quiz that's 40 points and can't miss that at all. I've had it longer then the rest of the folks in the house and wish it would just leave and not let the door hit it on the way out (course, that would be nice!) I'm feeling a little more spunky then I have and knew I had to stop in so not to freak anyone out, that would be bad. So, yeah...Liz is still here, watching over.

Liz, glad you are feeling better and believe me I understand. Lots of nasty crap around this time of year. Thanks for letting us know you are ok.

Yep, just hanging out at this point. I was able to make it to class today for the quiz and had a lot of extra spunk to get involved with the discussion of child care/neglect, which is a chapter we are working on. I crashed when I got home, though. Also, working to take care of a female bird that's having a tough time. Right now, she's having to best sleep that she has not had in a long time and she'll grow back her feathers someday, if she's tough enough to hang on. At least we gave her a home, shelter, food and people who care about her. One thing that all domesticated animals crave from us humans. Still have a nasty cough that I'm fearing is going to become the daily Bronchitis that I get twice a year, so trying to take it slow and keep the right meds close by. I'm hoping to become another regular once this is all straightened out and this is gone.

I am hoping your bird makes a full recovery. Taking care of animals is something we humans need to do.
Take care of that cough. Nasty coughs after the flu often need antibiotics as a secondary infection has set in.

aww hope birdy will be OK. My cat has been sick also, his stomach is bloated and they are not sure why so we got some antibiotics and will start with that and hope it cures it.

Well, birdie didn't do ok and passed away at 1:30 Thursday morning when I went downstairs to get some Theraflu and more meds. Little Yzma had passed away in her sleep, which is more comforting me, and is in a much better place. I still ended up crying myself to sleep, however, I'm glad that she is no longer feeling any pain.
Cough wise, it's getting better, but still taking the right medication to keep it from becoming anything else. I really don't need anything worse right now.

It's what she needs, Benstabler, since she had been through a lot for a little bird. We're planning on burying her when the ground becomes softer, so she's wrapped up and in a small freezer for the time being. Gave me a boost though to watch the other female carefully. Eartha is now in the smaller cage and given her own space to grow more feathers back before being put back with the boys. Can't keep them separate for long though. Boys will become very stressed and start defeathering themselves without a female or two around.

I've lost several animals hun so I can sympathize. You certainly don't want to see them suffering.

Yep, the majority of our 12 pets are elderly and requiring extra care now. Found a hard lump under one of Darwin's nipples and we're planning on taking him to a clinic that specializes in elderly pets. He's an old dog and, since he has boxer in his blood, boxers do get cancer. What we want to do is make sure if it is or isn't. We already have a pet that does have cancer, but she's still going strong and doesn't slow down. Eartha, one of the birds, has been separated from the boys and her feathers are slowly coming in. She's not happy with it, but it had to be done to stop it from continuing and have the same thing happen, that took Yzma.
