Notorious BIG's legacy remembered Thursday, January 08, 2009, 07:08
P Diddy, Ice-T and Jadakiss still remember the legacy Notorious BIG left behind, 11 years after his untimely death. P Diddy, one of his closest friends, said at the New York premiere of Notorious, which he executively produced: "Biggie's one of the greatest rappers that have ever lived, because he was always pushing his mind. "It wasn't because of his bravado, it wasn't because he was big, but his mind, the way he wrote. He raised the bar, and that's his impact. He made a lot of hip-hop artists hit the books and think about a different approach or a different way to say something." Rapper Ice-T added: "It's the American dream. You come out of the hood and negative stuff, then all of a sudden, you become a big star. "For me to be in the game for 10 years, then see him come in, sent a shockwave through the game. It's incredible - such a real, original style. To have come out with an art form as real as hip-hop, it's not just music. This has soul, it has content. It's just a unique thing." And labelmate Jadakiss recalled: "Biggie was more than a role model. He had a humongous impact on my career. We used to sit down and write rhymes and verses that we just wanted to hear. "Being on the same label as him is a priceless experience. He is one of the greatest rappers of all time, and everyone should remember him for what he did in and for the hip-hop community." Notorious is out from January 16.

He was a hip hop tragedy. So many are caught up in violence. Ice is a success story.

He is. But ya know some people I can understand but Biggie wasn't (pardon the pun) that big, imo.

No he wasn't but I know that violence seems to still surround most of the hip hop crowd and that is sad.

It got a large audience from the hip hop crowd but I don't yet know how well it did.

I am going to keep an eye out for the film does. I would like to see it myself. My son was way into rap in Biggie's time frame so I know who most rap stars are. That was how I discovered Ice-T, when my son brought home a cassette.

I remember reading a Newsweek article about Biggie almost twelve years ago, then the whole East Coast-West Coast rivalry happened.
